In recent years, I've done much of my traveling in Europe. However, in the summer of 1993, I went on a canoe trip on the Homochitto River, south of Natchez. Mel Hardin and his daughter Jessica (my Goddaughter) accompanied me.

In the summer of 1999 (June 10 - July 4, 1999) I toured Greece and Turkey as part of a group led by Clifford Ashby. I have posted a detailed itinerary of this tour elsewhere. I have also posting a more general assortment of travel tips for Greece and Turkey.

I visited Greece and Turkey with this group in 1987. From L to R, Pattie Lusk, Jim Moy, Judi Sprague, Jerry Bangham, Oscar Brockett, Gresdna Doty, Edith Notman, Linda Sampson, and group leader Clifford Ashby. I'm not sure why Ken Waters, James Traynham and Jerri Wirick aren't in the picture too. Taken at Lato in Crete.
In
1989, many of the same people got together to visit Sicily and Italy. Here
the group is, from L to R, Judi Smith-Terry, Oscar Brockett, a couple of
strangers, James Traynham (in white hat), Gresdna Doty, Jerry Bangham, Sam
Abel, Linda Sampson, Pattie Lusk and Ken Watters. Again the leader was Clifford
Ashby, perhaps he was behind the camera for this shot which was taken at
Metapontum in southern Italy.

In
1991, I was "Scholar in Residence" with a group from the University
of Georgia. We spent a month in Italy, mainly in the Parma area and then two
weeks in London. The picture was taken during a stopover in Amsterdam, Our leaders
were John English (on the far left) and Stanley Longman (next to him).
In the summer of 1995, I studied in Florence with the Humanities Institute. This picture shows me with a group of my fellow students.
In the summer of 1998, I enrolled in Joanne Walen's Shakespeare
Express. The group saw six shows at Stratford-upon-Avon and heard lectures
and participated in discussions provided by the Shakespeare Institute. Here
is our group (Joanne is in the center) in our classroom at the Institute.
Since the classes are based on the plays being presented at Stratford, they
will be different each year. I've taken the class twice since 1988 and paln
to return in 2003. To find out more, you can contact Joanne
Walen.
