Show Me The Money Online PD
for middle and high school educators -
February 28 - April 8
“Show Me the Money: Personal Finance for Middle and Secondary
Classrooms”, a 6-week, facilitated, online PD,
offered through
e-Learning Kentucky
will introduce you to basic personal finance concepts and
principles that can be implemented immediately in your everyday
lessons and activities. We will explore personal finance as
recommended in the new Practical Living Program Review as
well as the interactive, hands-on lessons, activities, and
resources focusing on some of the newest and “best” online
resources. Opportunities to
share resources, strategies, and ideas with colleagues! As a
final product, we will create and share personal finance
webliographies. Topics will include: financial responsibility and
decision-making; income and careers; financial planning; credit
and debt; insurance and risk management, and savings and
investing.

Teaching
Economics Using Children's Literature
- We are seeking 5th-grade
teachers who will teach economic concepts this spring to
participate in a study of the effectiveness of a CEE curriculum.
We are looking for teacher participants for 2 groups during
Spring, 2011 – and, the ultimate aim is to have teachers in both
groups trained to use the ”Teaching Economics Using Children’s
Literature” curriculum with your students and to supply all of the
teachers with many of the literature books referenced in the
curriculum.

Teachers Who Participate:
A stipend of $100 upon completion of requirements this spring
| Free training in Teaching Economics
Using Children’s Literature curriculum including a copy of the
curriculum – this will occur in August,2011 (after the student
testing is done this spring) | A copy
of each of 13 different children’s literature books from the
curriculum | An Implementation Plan
that outlines 5th-grade core concepts covered in the literature
books
Requirements for Teachers Who Participate: Teachers
complete two online tests/surveys in February, 2011
| All teachers administer standardized online pretests to
students | One group of teachers will
use a concept list to incorporate literature books in classes
during Spring, 2011 but will not use the curriculum (Group 1)
| One group of teachers will teach
economics as usual with no use of the literature books or
curriculum during Spring, 2011 (Group 2) |
All teachers administer posttests during the Spring, 2011 semester
| All teachers complete a follow-up
survey at the end of the project.
Participants can earn $100 stipend!

Literacy Summit - June

Gen I Revolution

Developed for middle school and high school students, this online
game gives your students the chance to learn important personal
finance skills as they play and compete against fellow classmates.
The game includes fifteen Missions in which students attempt to
help people in financial trouble. Students join the Gen i
Revolution, strategically select their Operatives, and begin to
explore and earn points as they work to complete each Mission.
Teachers can create their own account and monitor student scores.
