Traditional methods of brewing have been retained at the Old Brewery.

The yeast has been of the same strain since the turn of the century and still ferments in slate Yorkshire "squares." As a result the brews are particularly full-bodied in character.

The brewery is the only on in the world that has a ten horse team of grey shire horses. Samuel Smith's Old Brewery is one of the few remaining independent breweries in England.
